Teaching can be the most rewarding career.
There is no one else that can influence a love of learning like a teacher can. No one better at motivating a child to achieve what they thought was impossible.
The sense of pride you feel as an educator will never leave you.
But it can also be rough. It can also be all-consuming. The pressure, the paperwork, the endless planning can overwhelm you. In your first year, that feeling can rob you of your confidence.
You can feel as though you want to quit.
Here at NQT Life, I strive to help you believe that you can do it. I strive to enable you to become a great teacher. I strive to ensure that you have the courage, the skills and the motivation to keep going, even when times get tough.
Because here’s the thing. They WILL get tough.
But with the right support, the right strategies and the right attitude, you can become an excellent practitioner.
Who am I?
My name is Steph Caswell and I have been a teacher for more than 13 years. I am a former Deputy Head, SENCO, NQT Mentor and Y6 teacher.
Since 2015, I have written three books for teachers, written articles for Teach Primary magazine and developed this blog.
I am saddened by the number of teachers who are leaving the profession and this inspires me to help you in any way I can.
I don’t want you to become a statistic.
I want you to become the teacher you were born to be.
When I’m not writing, I walk my beautiful dog, Flo; try to maintain some sense of order in a house with two young children and put the teaching world to rights with my Y6-teaching husband. I love children’s books too!
